Brathay Hall Open Day

In association with the Brathay Windermere Marathon

On May 18th 2008 the Brathay Hall Estate will be open to spectators of the marathon, the local community and visitors to the area. The Open Day will run from 10:30 to 17:00. Entry is free and car parking will be charged at £5.00 per car.

There will be a range of entertainment, activities and refreshments available to ensure an enjoyable and memorable day is had by all.

  • Jazz band – The Lakes Jazzmen
  • Climbing wall
  • Rowing
  • Canoeing
  • High ropes challenge

Brathay Marathon Event Facilities:

The Brathay Windermere Marathon is being held in conjunction with the Brathay Open Day. Entry for the open day is £5.00 per car.

There will be male and female changing facilities and toilets at the event centre.

Supervised bag storage will be available at the event centre.

There will be distance markers every mile around the course.

Frequent water stations will be positioned around the course offering 500ml bottles of mineral water, SiS energy drinks, and snacks.

Friday 16th May – 09:00 to 17:00
Saturday 17th May – 09:00 to 21:00
Sunday 18th May – 07:00 to 17:00



How to Find Brathay

By Road From the South

Exit the M6 at J36 and take the A590 around Kendal. At the first roundabout take the second exit, towards Windermere, and continue on the A591 to Ambleside. At the traffic lights, fork left, keeping to the lake shore. Follow signs for Coniston, turning left and left again over Rothay bridge on the A593 and into Clappersgate. Turn left on the B5286 signposted for Hawkshead which brings you over Brathay bridge. The main entrance to Brathay is about 100 yards further along on your left, over the cattle grid. Follow the drive up to the Hall.

From the North

Exit the M6 at J40 and follow the A66 for twelve miles towards Keswick. Turn left at the B5322 signposted to Windermere and follow for several miles to the T junction. Turn left on to the A591 towards Ambleside.

Drive through Ambleside and follow the one way system signs for Coniston. This brings you over the Rothay bridge on the A593 and into Clappersgate. Turn left on the B5286 signposted for Hawkshead which brings you over Brathay bridge. The main entrance to Brathay is about 100 yards further along on your left, over the cattle grid. Follow the drive up to the Hall.

By Rail

Oxenholme station is on the Virgin West Coast main line between London Euston and Glasgow and most trains stop here. Trains connect with a branch line to Windermere. There are also taxis at Oxenholme (approx 15 miles to Brathay). Branch line trains run between Manchester Airport and Windermere. Taxis and buses are available at Windermere station. We can collect you by Brathay minibus if arranged in advance.
